Welcome to the AGA
Welcome to the web site of the Australian Defence Force Academy Graduates Association.
The AGA is the alumni association for graduates of ADFA, Australia's tri-service military university in Canberra.
According to the Association's constitution, The objects of the Association are as follows:

to foster camaraderie among Graduates of the Australian Defence Force Academy;
-
to promote wider community interest in the ideals, objectives and history of the Australian Defence Force Academy by association with service and civilian organisations;
-
to provide information and services to Graduates, cadets and other agencies deemed appropriate by the Association; and
-
to support other activities in the general interest of the membership of the Association and the Australian Defence Force Academy in keeping with the spirit of the above objectives.
All graduates of the Academy and selected associates can join the Association free of charge. If you are a graduate and you would like to join, or if you would like to apply for associate membership, click here.

AFDA PTI aims to raise $60K for Legacy
Neil McCallum is a member of the Australian Defence Force (Army) currently based at the Australian Defence Force Academy as the Warrant Officer for Physical Training. Neil has taken on the challenge to raise $60,000 for Legacy; a 24 Hour Solo ride around Lake Burley Griffin; starting 1100h on the 10 Nov 2012 & finishing 1100h on the 11 Nov 2012 at the War Memorial Remembrance Day Service.

About Neil
Neil enlisted in the British Army in 1983 & discharged at the end of 24 years
of service to join the Australian Army in 2007 as a Physical Training Instructor.
With a background in boxing, Neil was British Ranked No 1 Bantam Weight, representing England as boxer, coach & official. Furthermore,
he was a member of the Barcelona 1992 British Olympic Squad. Since retiring from the boxing ring, Neil continued his sporting career as a
marathon and cross-country runner, eventually taking up cycling.
In 2002 Neil was appointed by the Queen as An Ordinary Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the Queens New Years Honours List.

ADFA Redevelopment - ADFA Graduates Association Submission
The Public Works Committee is conducting an inquiry into the proposed Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) redevelopment in Canberra, ACT. The Defence submission proposes $98.5 million works be undertaken to redevelop and refurbish the existing ADFA site. The Defence submission outlines that the purpose of the project is to provide modern and high quality facilities to meet the needs for preparing the current and future leaders of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Major points include: the provision of new teaching space; refurbishment of some existing teaching areas, Cadets' Mess, and accommodation areas; replacement of Adams Hall and new indoor sports centre.
The Public Works Committee has called for submissions and is conducting a public hearing to ensure the proposed works meet the needs of ADFA and represent value for money for the Commonwealth. Pending Parliamentary approval, the works will start at the end of 2011 with completion due in 2014.
The ADFA Graduates Association (AGA), which is an independent alumni association graduates of ADFA, provides this submission on the proposed redevelopment of ADFA.

The biannual ADFA Graduates Association (AGA) Breakfast was held on 15 April 2011 in the Russell Offices Officer's Mess. The AGA was delighted to welcome the guest speaker Professor Mick Dodson AM, 2009 Australian of the Year and a wide range of attendees, including the Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie AC DSC CSM, senior representatives from KPMG – who have been strong supporters of the AGA, members of the Podmore Foundation along with Mia Hodges - the first recipient of of the AGA/Podmore scholarship, and a wide range of ADFA graduates.
Guest speaker, Professor Mick Dodson
Professor Dodson is a member of the Yawuru peoples, the traditional Aboriginal owners of land and waters in the Broome area of the
southern Kimberley region of Western Australia. He is currently Director of the National Centre for Indigenous Studies at the Australian
National University and is a Professor of Law at the ANU College of Law. During his address he emphasised that he believed that to close
the gap in indigenous issues, many walls, metaphorical and material, needed to be torn down. He said education was the key to addressing
this well-documented gap.
For the many Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) graduates who were present, the biannual AGA Breakfast was also about raising funds
for the AGA-Podmore Scholarship. This $5000 scholarship has provided Mia Hodges the opportunity to receive an education at Canberra Girls
Grammar School. But more will be needed to keep giving Mia and other children similar opportunities in order to achieve Professor Dodson's
vision.
The AGA Breakfast raised over $800 for the scholarship and marked the continuing drive of the AGA to connect graduates and build communities.
The AGA will use the 2011 City to Surf as the next major event to raise funds. The AGA Chair, Mr Steve Rohan-Jones, issued a challenge to both
graduates and current ADFA cadets to sign up for the event, "Let's see who can raise the most funds for Mia", he said, "We reckon the current
cadets may be quicker but we can contribute more!"

The Academy Graduates Association Committee has been closely following the media commentary regarding the "Skype" incident that occurred at ADFA with great concern. The file linked below is a copy of an article that was published in The Canberra Times on Saturday which was the result of an interview with the Chairman of AGA. While we don't know the full details surrounding the incident and nor should we, we are of the firm opinion that this is an isolated incident, and the continued media speculation only serves to tarnish the excellent reputation of all those people who have attended this institution.
